Designed and built by Dr. Mikhail Cossack to explore some of Earth's coldest regions, Tundra Man is a charmer, a showman, and always ready to add some pizzazz to an otherwise boring scene. His day-to-day life on its face is nothing particularly interesting, mostly consisting of leading teams of lesser robots on scouting expeditions where humans can't comfortably venture. He's very used to long, quiet days, and when your office is the North Pole, it's hard to get through the monotony without something to distract yourself. His true love appeared to him on a day like any other, holed up in his assigned outpost, huddled over a small, ancient TV with only a few channels. Before his very eyes, a figure clad in finery the likes he'd never seen turned boring, flat ice into the perfect stage. Graceful, twirling motions flowed into each other like water, the swell of the music and the flash of bladed skates gluing a young Tundra to the screen. It was the most wondrously beautiful thing he had ever seen, and he knew there was nothing he'd love more than to be on that very same stage, dazzling the judges and wowing the crowd, his crowd, in a way only a love for the art could. He returned to Russia as soon as work permitted, surprising his family at the door and immediately begging his creator to turn him into a figure skater. The normally withdrawn machine had a new fire to him, an enthusiasm that took Dr. Cossack off guard.Like any good father, he supported his creation's passions with gusto. Three long days in the lab later, and the Tundra Man that everyone now knows and loves emerged, reborn and joyful, ready to change the world. He still had his job, of course - but now he had the looks, and all the time in the world to practice.Several years after this, during a routine visit to Light Laboratories for maintenance, Tundra was kidnapped and reprogrammed by Dr. Wily to do his bidding in an attempt to conquer the world. While he was foiled by Mega Man and the kidnapped robots were returned, the encounter granted Tundra his signature weapon and the Speed Gear, both of which turn him into a fearsome opponent. While he hopes he never has to use them again, he's chosen to keep the modifications; should he ever need to defend himself or those he loves, he'll be ready.
Basic Information
Name: DCN-085 Tundra Man
Aliases: Tundra, Skates
Age: Early 20's
Pronouns: He/Him
Species: Robot Master
Occupation: Usually stationed at either pole - typically the North - to monitor environmental changes and survey the landscape for potential development. Figure skates as a passion.
Character Type: Canon - Boss character from Mega Man 11Traits
Powers, Abilities, and Talents:
- Tundra Storm: Signature weapon ability. Summons a vortex of scathingly cold air around him, freezing anything and everything that gets caught within in a matter of seconds.
- Speed Gear: A "gift" bestowed upon him by Dr. Wily. A small internal component that, when activated, allows Tundra Man to move, think, and act over twice as fast, hence the name. Using this too often for too long, however, puts significant strain on his systems, and can lead to serious damage if done consistently.
- Ice Skates: Simply an unremarkable gold-colored alloy at first glance, Tundra's skates are made of a material that seems to ignore all sources of friction. This allows him to glide smoothly across almost any surface, provided it's firm enough to hold his weight without him sinking into it.
- Amateur Figure Skater: Many long polar nights have been spent dancing across the Northern ice flats, perfecting his form and myriad performances. While his occupation prevents him from entering many competitions, he's a professional in his own right.Physical Strengths:
- Nimble and flexible, and shockingly hard to knock off his feet.
- Able to lift large amounts of weight and hold it for extended periods of time.
- Capable of operating normally in temperatures as low as -100°c (-148°f).
- Far sturdier than he looks and can take a beating.Physical Weaknesses:
- Temperatures above freezing cause Tundra to tire quicker, though obviously the colder it is, the longer he can go. Effects are only truly noticable if it gets any hotter than 10°c (50°f), and he's usually unwilling to do more than lay around if it's 26°c (80°f) or hotter.
- Unable to remove his skates without specialized equipment, and thus often has to deal with the consequences of how awkward they can be, though he seems to have a good handle on it.
- Delicate internals are extremely sensitive to high voltage. Even smaller jolts that most robots can shrug off will put him out of sorts for a long time.Misc. Physical:
- Always slightly cold to the touch.
- Any ice-like structures on his body are actually made of ice, up to and including his braid. Should they sustain damage - or worse, melt - Tundra can shed and re-freeze the structures, using a specialized mix of chemicals that stay frozen once combined. (The same chemicals are used in his cooling systems.)
- Tall with sturdy, lightweight construction.Equipment/Belongings:
- Maintenance Kit: A small metal case that contains tools to perform basic upkeep on himself. An assortment of screwdrivers, small wrenches, spare wires and components - anything a robot might need for long trips to the Arctic. Also includes polish, several polishing sponges, a microfiber rag, small pots of paint, an airbrush, and a pocket mirror.Persona & Presence
Personality:
Loud, flamboyant, and loves the spotlight. Being the baby of the family means that he's often doted on, much to his delight; this has resulted in an individual who is very confident and proud of who he is, and who will viciously defend his siblings against any form of assailant or bully. Perhaps a bit spoiled, and no small measure of vain, it would be fair to assume Tundra Man has an ego the size of a planet, but those who look past his bravado will find a loving, tender-hearted individual that always seeks to improve the moods of those around him. Quick to make friends and loyal to a fault. Not exactly humble, but knows when he needs to reign himself in for the sake of others. Loose with both his emotions and his wallet, and loves getting expensive lunches or drinks to gossip over.Writing Sample:
"Skull Man?"Tundra stands impatiently outside his brother's room, one hand fiddling with the end of his braid as the other occupies itself with knocking on his door. Knock, knock, knock, knock... "I know you're awake in there, Skull! You promised me that we'd head into the city today, don't you try to flake on me now!"Abruptly and grumpily the shutter before him opens, and hot pink eyes trail down to fix on his aggrandized brother. "You look like a mess.""What else is new?" Skull's low, rough voice rattles from behind his mask, eyes narrowing in an exhausted glare. "Do we really have to do this now, Tundra? It wouldn't kill you to wait a day...""Yes, it would!" Skull Man sighs and squeezes his eyes shut as Tundra's voice raises in offense. "You've been saying that for weeks! Oh, we'll go tomorrow, actually let's wait for the weekend, but wait I made other plans with myself I didn't tell you about, sorry -""Tundra -""I'm not hearing it!" He stomps his foot, a small pop of sparks dancing away from the toe of his skate. "Either we're going today or I'm never making plans with you again! You used to hang out with me all the time, what happened?!"It takes a moment for Skull to respond, and the nature of his silence makes Tundra suddenly concerned. He's about to apologize when his older brother finally speaks up, looking at the ground with a scowl. "I'm just... dealing with things, Skates. Gimme a bit, I'll get ready to go.""Wait." The feeling of Tundra's hand on his shoulder makes Skull pause, and he looks up at him reluctantly. "What kind of stuff? Do you need to talk?""No." The reply is immediate and firm, but there's no venom behind it. "I know you worry, but this isn't something you need to know about. I'll talk to Ring Man later.""You can talk to me too. You know that, right?""I don't want to concern you with -""Does it have to do with Wily?"Silence. No one moves, but Tundra doesn't shy away, waiting patiently for his brother to reply. There's nothing said, but the way his shoulders slump tells him all he needs to know."I'm not fresh off the workbench anymore, Skull." His prior outrage is long forgotten, tone low and worried. "I might not have the experience the rest of you do, but I've had to deal with him too. I know how it's eating at you. Talk to me, please. I want to help."Another, smaller moment of silence. Skull glances up at him and considers him for a few heavy seconds before sighing, shouldering his way back into his room. "Get the door behind you.""Of course. Now what's wrong?"The shutter closes behind them quietly.
